The Company StratoSphere Pharma is young as a company, founded 2004 with the mission to develop and commercialize a superior sustained release technology which was later named StratoSphereHL™ in which HL stands for High Load. However, this mission did not fall upon us from nowhere. For more than a total of 60 years, the individuals behind StratoSphere Pharma have been devoted to drug delivery, most of it spent on microsphere technologies and everlasting questions about drug payloads, process robustness, burst effects, etc. For example, the founders were instrumental in the development of the Biosphere® microsphere technology for sustained release injectables. The people now convinced about making a groundbreaking contribution to safe and effective sustained release injectables are: Timo Laakso, PhD, born 1958. President of StratoSphere Pharma. Dr Laakso brings more than 18 years of industrial experience in protein drug delivery R&D and commercialization. Prior to founding StratoSphere Pharma, Dr Laakso was Head of R&D at SkyePharma AB (Sweden), and before that he held various senior R&D positions in SkyePharma Plc, Bioglan Pharma Plc, and Biogram AB. Dr Laakso earned his PhD at University of Uppsala 1987, with a thesis on the use of microparticles for passive targeting of drugs after parenteral administration. Dr Laakso is a co-inventor in all patents on SkyePharma´s Biosphere® technology. Monica Jönsson, born 1948. Director and Head of Research Laboratory. Ms Jönsson has over 35 years of experience in protein chemistry, of which the last 16 years within the field of parenteral drug delivery of protein drugs. Prior to co-founding StratoSphere Pharma, Ms Jönsson headed the Research Laboratory at SkyePharma AB (Sweden) and among other responsibilities she headed the crucial preformulation activities for all new drug candidates. Ms Jönsson is also a co-inventor in the patents on SkyePharma's Biosphere® technology.
